RSIME LS-DYNA Projects: Hertzian Contact Stress Analysis
A tapered roller bearing was modeled and analyzed by LS-DYNA to determine the Hertzian contact stresses. Hertzian contact stresses are responsible for bearing spalling failures. Understanding the depth and magnitude of the maximum shear stress below the surface of the race can help prevent failure.
The roller, inner and outer races were modeled to interact with each other to provide an accurate representation of the stress on the race surfaces. Profile of the race crown was also adjusted to analyze the effect on the maximum shear stress.
